Ballymacward 1-6 Fohenagh 1-5. Report from Connacht Tribune. Ballymacward confounded the critics in the final of the Kilconnell Hurling Tournament in Kilconnell on Monday when they beat a fancied Fohenagh side by a a single point. Earlier the same day Ballymacward had accounted for Tynagh after a hectic struggle, while Fohenagh were hard pressed to defeat a determined combination from Kilconnell. This final was marked by some neat passages of hurling. Fohenagh tried hard to gain the equaliser but the stalwart Ballymacward defence could not be beaten. In those last pulsating moments Tim Sweeney (Fohenagh’s County player) found much tougher opposition than he met against Clare the previous day. Outstanding for Ballymacward were Lydon and Harte in the back line, Ruane and Murray at midfield and O’Dea in the forward line. The following was the victorious Ballymacward team: P. Murray, M. Harte, P. Kenny, T. Bellew, M. Mentane, M. Lydon, M. Kenny, P. Ruane, N. Murray, P. Mentane, J. O’Dea, J. Costello, T. Burns, G. Murray, J. Collins.
