Tomorrow, for the first time in 30 years, Pearses line out in Quarter-Final of the Senior Hurling Championship. In 1982 they were pitted against a great Castlegar team, led by the legendary Connolly brothers. Cashel were narrow winners (0-10 to 0-8) that day in Loughrea. This time around, Pearses are again up against a one of the Kingpins, in the reigning County Champions, Gort (in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe at 4.30pm). The odds are stacked against Pearses despite giving Gort a fright in an earlier Group game. Pearses can take confidence from that clash, although they lost out in the end, for long periods in the game they dominated the South Galway men. The form of Cyril Donnellan in Galway’s run to the All-Ireland Final is another plus. Hopefully he can carry the form into tomorrow’s clash. The game is preceeded by another Quarter-Final clash, between Mullagh and Loughrea. Come along and support the team!
