Following many weeks of preparation the Club’s U14 hurlers took the long trip north to the Glens of Antrim this morning. The hosts for the weekend are two time All-Ireland Senior Club Champions, Loughgiel Shamrocks. The travelling party arrived in Loughgiel shortly after 2pm.
The first game of the weekend was scheduled for 4pm, against Dublin team St. Brigid’s, who are being hosted by neighbouring Club, McQuillans. Pearses led 2-2 to 0-1 at half-time and despite a closer second half, the boys in black and white ran out winners 2-8 to 1-3. Scorers: O Flannery (1-3), D Reilly (1-2), M Hennelly (0-2), C Murphy (0-1).
The second game was at 6pm and the opposition were Ballycastle McQuillans. They had been beaten in their first game by Loughgiel. Again Pearses dominated the first half and lead 1-5 to 0-1 at the break. Like our first game the second half seen an improvement in the opposition, but not enough, as Pearses added 1-2 to their own tally and ran out winners again on a similar scoreline, 2-7 to 1-2. This second win guaranteed Pearses’ place in the Cup Quarter-Finals. Scorers: O Flannery (1-3), D Reilly (1-1), C Kitt (0-2), G Kenny (0-1).
The final Group game for the lads is tomorrow morning at 11am, against the host club Loughgiel Shamrocks. This game will determine whether Pearses finish top of the group or second and hence who we play in the Cup Quarter-Finals at 2.30pm. The top team in Group B play the second in Group A and vica-versa.
