Pearses 4-11 Milltown 2-8: Our Junior footballers booked their place in the North Board Final with a nine point win on Sunday morning in Corofin. Pearses had a great start, when Tomas Flannery had the ball in the net after just 15 seconds. When Kerrill Hardiman netted a second in the 17th minute Pearses led until the end.
Milltown responded to the early goal, with two points. Enda Cunniffe and Niall Skehill kicked Pearses’ first two points. Milltown broke through the Pearses defence for a Penalty. The spot kick was dispatched to net, despite the best efforts of keeper Edmund Flannery. The teams were now level, 1-2 apiece after 16 minutes.
Pearses slotted a quick fire 1-1 a minute later to retake the lead. Kerrill Hardiman the goalscorer and Emmett Ward with the point. Milltown pointed a free, but another goal from Enda Cunniffe and points from Skehill and Cunniffe, gave Pearses a commanding 3-5 to 1-4 half-time lead.
Milltown opened the second half scoring with a point. Tomas Flannery kicked two-in-a-row, one a free, before Kerrill Hardiman and Niall Skehill points followed. Pearses now led by ten, 13 minutes into the second half. Milltown broke the dominance with a goal, but Niall Skehill had the ball was in the net at the other end a minute later.
Milltown outscored Pearses 0-3 to 0-2 in the final 14 minutes, as they went on all out attack. Leo Morrissey went close with a goal chance for Pearses, while Milltown’s best efforts for goal were denied at the other end. A Niall Skehill point brought his personal total to 1-4. Damien Wynne kicked the last point with the outside of the boot, one of the scores of the game.
Pearses now advance to play Meelick-Eyrecourt in the North Board Final, to be played on the weekend of September 27th-28th, TBC.
