Pearses 3-14 Killimordaly 3-5. Pearses got their Minor Championship off to a flying start on Monday evening when they defeated our near neighbours and great rivals Killimordaly by 9 points, in Killimordaly. So impressive was Pearses’ first half performance that the home side had failed to register a score by the half-time whistle. The score at the interval was 1-8 to 0-0, thanks mainly to the accuracy of Brian Sweeney from placed balls and the goal from corner-forward Tom Carr.
Killimordaly needed something special in the second half to claw themselves back into the game. To their credit they made a gallant attempt at overturning the big deficit, led again (as they had been in the U21 clash of the clubs 2 weeks ago) by Brian Burke. The big youngster accounting for all but 2 points of Killimordaly’s second-half tally.
Indeed Killimordaly shaded the high-scoring second half (3-5 to 2-6). However, the cushion Pearses has built in the first-half meant they just had to keep the scoreboard ticking over, to run out easy winners in the end. Best for Pearses were Gary Hennelly, Ronan Bellew, Tom Carr and Brian Sweeney. Round 2 of the Championship is scheduled for April 14th, stay tuned for more details nearer the date.
