Liam Mellows 4-20 Pearses 2-14: Two early Liam Mellows goals were blows that Pearses never recovered from. Tadhg Haran doing the damage on both occasions. The city team led 2-10 to 0-9 at half-time. Pearses best spell came just after half-time, when the margin was pulled back to three points, 2-11 to 1-11. The Pearses goal a Tomas Flannery free which was taken over the line by the keeper. However the Pearses revival ended when Haran completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot. Mellows hit six of the next eight points in the final quarter, to restore their lead. Sub Brian Sweeney rattled the net for Pearses, but Aonghus Callanan responded at the other end as Mellows ran out convincing winners.
