Our U10 hurlers were unlucky to lose out in this East Galway League Semi-Finalandamp;nbsp;in Fohenagh yesterday evening. A late scoring burst, yielding 1-1, by Mountbellew-Moylough seen them through to the Final. The lads have had a great run in the League, winning 7 out of their 8 games previous to this and indeed had beaten our ‘Black and Amber’ neighbours in a previous meeting.
Mountbellew-Moylough took an early lead with two points, but Pearses then took over and a goal and a point from Paddy Kenny put them in front. Cian Murphy hit another goal and but for some fine goalkeeping could have had another two. Mountbellew-Moylough then hit back with a goal of their own and two points. Cian Murphy hitting the last score of the half to leave Pearses one point in front (2-2 to 1-4) at half-time.
Cian Murphy opened the Pearses second-half scoring with a point, but Mountbellew-Moylough were keen not to allow a repeat of the first half and very soon after this had levelled the game. However, just like the first half, Cian Murphy struck for another goal and could have had another, but for a save from the keeper.
Mountbellew-Moylough levelled with a goal of their own, before Conor Moran landed a long-range point to push Pearses ahead. However 1-1 in the closing minutes from Mountbellew-Moylough seen them prevail as 3 point winners, 3-7 to 3-4.
This was an entertaining game and the standard of the hurling throughout was of a very high level. The Pearses players and management will be disappointed, but can be proud of a great season. There are some very talented players in this group and many of them are U10 again next year, so the future still looks bright!
