Pearses 7-9 Abbeyknockmoy 3-2: Pearses U12s opened their campaign with an impressive win over neighbours Abbeyknockmoy in Gurteen this evening. Pearses were 1-4 to 0-2 to the good after 12 mins as they had the upper hand right from the throw-in, dominating possession and played a lovely passing game as they sprayed the ball around to great effect.
Ronan Hynes opened the scoring with a point from play and Dara Scarry sent Pearses on their way as he took his goal exceptionally well from point blank range. Paddy Kenny, Ronan Hynes and Darragh Roche chipped in with the points; the latter from an acute angle. Conor Kelly scored our 2nd goal after he caught a clearance from Jonah Donnellan in the paw and unleashed a powerful effort which found the net with the aid of a deflection.
Ronan Hynes scored goal 3 with a high lobbing ball from distance which eluded the keeper and found the net. Dara Scarry scored our fourth goal just before the break after Paddy Kenny, Ronan Hynes and Darragh Roche were involved in a lovely build –up. Pearses 4-4 Abbeyknockmoy 0-2 at half time.
A reshuffled Pearses team emerged for the second half as Harry Mitchell restarted in the forwards, David Walsh came out field and Conor Hillary stood between the posts. Paddy Kenny scored a point from play within 4 mins of the restart after he collected a lovely crossfield pass from Ronan Hynes. Dara Scarry completed his hat-trick as he pulled first time on a rebound when the goalie saved an initial shot from Harry Mitchell.
Ronan Hynes tapped over another point and then Harry Mitchell scored a bullet after he caught a free taken by Anthony Feeney 6-6 to 0-2. Harry Mitchell threw over the crossbar for Pearses 7th point from play after Jonah Donnellan and Paddy Kenny did the donkey work. David Walsh added 2 points in quick succession after he capitalised on poor defensive play from the Abbey lads. Abbeyknockmoy scored 3 late goals in quick succession to put some respect on the scoreline while young Dillon Roche finished Pearses tally with a great goal which almost burst the net. So happy days for Pearses U12s in their first outing of the year with a plethora of scorers.
