Pearses U13’s suffered their first set-back of the championship to a much stronger and physical Kilconieron outfit in rain-sodden Gurteen yesterday evening. Kilconieron were firmly in the driving seat by the end of the opening quarter and were 2-04 up before Conor Moran opened Pearses account with a brace of frees; his first almost from the side-line.
He tacked on another from play soon afterwards after Paddy Kenny spotted him unmarked and then scored a whopper of a goal; a dipping effort from a free after the hard working Darragh Roche was fouled. At this stage a Lazarus-like comeback looked promising as this young U13 team had clawed back the lead to 4 points.
But this was as near as Pearses would get as Kilconieron pushed on straight from the puck-out and registered 5 more points before Ronan Hynes scored Pearses 4th point, a lovely effort taken on the run. Kilconieron turned the screw just before half time with another goal to give them a comfortable half time lead.
The 2nd half was a complete roller-coaster for the visitors as they tacked on another 1-3 but despite the spirited 2nd half performance from Pearses, they could not drag themselves back into the game. I’m sure these youngsters felt the backlash on this occasion but they will dust themselves off and get back to winning ways. Remember: Stars can’t shine without darkness!
