Our U16 hurlers advanced to the ‘C’ Championship Semi-Final last week with a convincing (3-20 to 4-6) win over the visiting Míchéal Breathnachs team. Pearses played into the wind for the opening period and the game remained close, but when the home team got the wind at their backs they pushed on for a comfortable win.
Pearses led 2-4 to 1-2 after 15 minutes, both goals from Óisin Flannery, who along with Dean Reilly was causing the Breathnachs defence plenty of problems. With three minutes to go in the first half Pearses had extended their lead, 2-8 to 1-3. However the Connemara team took advantage of a lapse in Pearses concentration to hit 2-1 before half-time, leaving just one in it at the break 2-8 to 3-4.
Flannery completed his hat-trick just after half time, but again there was a goal at the other end, 3-9 to 4-4. This was to be as close as it got, as Pearses outscored the Connemara men, 0-11 to 0-2 in the remainder of the game. Oisin Flannery finishing with a personal total of 3-9, while Dean Reilly, Dylan Grady, Mark Hennelly, Shane Hynes and Conor O’Neill also raised white flags.
